Enjoying the heat?! We're not quite used to this kind of unrelenting sunshine here in good ol' Portland, Oregon! 8 straight days of 90+ degrees with more on the way (although we all know how accurate our Portland weather forecasters are...) is enough to make me want to run indoors, close the blinds, and never come out! At least not until the sun goes down...Good thing I love gardening in the dark!
That said, I thought it would be fun to put together a definitive (and admittedly subjective) list of the top 5 places in our beautiful city to escape the heat. So, without further adieu...
1. Salt & Straw
With over 1,323 reviews on Yelp, this little ice cream shop is BY FAR the most popular in Portland. Expect long lines....and great ice cream...
838 NW 23rd Ave
Portland, OR 97210
2. Roseway Theater
This 1 screen wonder always seems to have the perfect movie at the perfect time for the perfect price in the perfect location right down the street from the most perfect fondu...er...I got side tracked there...
7229 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland, OR 97213
3. Rheinlander German Restaurant
Fondu, shepherd's pie, chicken schnitzel (for you meat eaters out there), and a ridiculous number of beers on tap. It's a great place for German family reunions, after work happy hour, date night, and solo fondu binge eating... umm... oops!
5035 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland, OR 97213
4. Coava Coffee Roasters
Need a spot with strong coffee, strong wi-fi, and strong A/C? Look no further than Coava! It's a cool spot to step up to a standing workspace, plug in, and get to work. Oh - and their coffee is AMAZING.
2631 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, OR 97214
5. 1000 Acre Dog Park
I know this isn't indoors...but hear me out. Where else can you and your dog walk for hours off leash, work up that sweat, and then go for a swim in the Sandy River!!! I know it's a little ways out of the way - but there isn't a better place in the Portland Metro Area for you AND fido to cool off together!
Exit 18, Crown Point Hwy
Troutdale, OR 97060
6. Horsetail Falls
Looking for a cool place to hike on a hot summer day? This one is a just a beautiful drive along the scenic highway away. It has 100% shade cover, gorgeous (pun intended) scenic views, and a waterfall that you can walk behind! Ahhh.....refreshing...
59700 E Historic Columbia River Hwy
Cascade Locks, OR 97014
7. Your Brand New Home!!!!
I'm assuming that you want one with A/C...(Can you blame me? This is a real estate blog you know!!!)
